In January 2002 MGT of America concluded in a Florida workers' compensation study that expanded access to chiropractic care will result in positive outcomes in quality and cost-effectiveness in the future. This bodes well for health care cost control. However, we have found lingering concerns regarding chiropractic care when interviewing insurance professionals:
- Insufficient clinical documentation.
- Over utilization or inappropriate treatment patterns.
- Use of chiropractic-specific jargon.
- Timely communication of patient status.
Over the past 10 years we have worked tirelessly to address the concerns of insurance adjusters and nurse case managers. We stress the need to return the injured or ill employee to work as early as is safely possible. Our programs stress the need to utilize only those clinical procedures which have a track record of cost-effectiveness and follow evidence-based care models. The essential elements of evidence-based chiropractic care include:
- Utilize research supported care.
- Focus on patient outcome improvement.
- Subjective and objective assessments.
- Clearly documented clinical data.
